Duke and Duchess of Cambridge 'snubbed' niece Lilibet's first birthday as Sussexes feud continues

Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly snubbed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's invite to attend their daughter's birthday party. The couple chose to go to Wales instead as the country celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, according to sources.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex invited The Cambridges and their three children - George, Charlotte and Louis - to Lilibet's first birthday at Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor, for a low-key back garden picnic on Saturday, June 4. The pair were reportedly invited to the event as 'an olive branch', according to Page Six, but none of them attended.

William and Kate headed to Cardiff instead with George and Charlotte - while Louis stayed at home - for a royal engagement. According to reports, The Duke of Cambridge is reportedly "still wary of spending time alone with Harry", with a source telling the US paper that relations between the warring brothers is 'still fraught', BirminghamLive reports.

"William is still wary of spending any time alone with Harry as you never quite know what may be reported back afterwards," they said. Meghan and Harry's three-year-old son's godfather, Charlie Van Straubenzee was also invited, as well as his brother Tom - who is Princess Charlotte's godfather - sources say.

Those who did attend Lilibet's birthday bash reportedly included Zara and Mike Tindall's three children, Mia, eight, Lena, three, and Lucas, one, as well as Savannah, 11, and Isla, 10, daughters of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly. The Queen is believed to have spent time with the tot before they left on Sunday (June 5).

There was said to be balloons, face painting, games and a birthday cake, which was said to be made by Harry and Meghan's wedding baker. An adorable photo of the one-year-old was released to the public on Monday that showed her smiling as she sat on the grass outside in a pale blue frock with a white bow in her hair while enjoying the festivities.

The image was taken by family friend Misan Harriman, who also took the sweet snaps used by Harry and Meghan to announce the Duchess was pregnant with Lilibet in February 2021. Taking to his Twitter account, the photographer said: "It was such a privilege to celebrate the first birthday of Lilibet with my family and hers! Joy and face painting all around."
