Dujon Sterling Rangers transfer 'green light' as Ibrox men beat 'host' of clubs to Chelsea man

Dujon Sterling to Rangers is moving closer with Chelsea handing the defender the green light to move to Ibrox, according to a report.

Michael Beale is out to put his own stamp on the Light Blues this summer with a massive overhaul set to place in Govan. Alfredo Morelos is the most high profile player to be leaving when his contract expires after the news was confirmed following last weekend's win over Aberdeen. Ryan Kent is expected to follow while the likes of Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, Filip Helander and Steven Davis are also out of terms in the coming weeks. Ryan Jack is part of that group but is set to be offered a new one-year deal.

Antonio Colak - who was signed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst - could exit the club alongside fringe duo Scott Wright and Jon McLaughlin.

A number of linked players coming in the way include Auston Trusty, Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell and Morgan Whittaker with Sterling in that namechecked group. The Evening Standard report that the 23-year-old is closing in on a move on a long-term deal after impressing on loan at Stoke City in the English Championship.

The same report states Beale has beaten a host of clubs in England to the capture of the defender with the contract to be rubber-stamped in the coming weeks, subject to a medical and final contractual details.

Beale wants to have fresh faces in the door for the opening day of pre-season and the majority of his business complete early with the crucial Champions League qualifiers taking place in the summer. He also wants to get off to a flier in his bid to dethrone Celtic and Ange Postecoglou.
