Duggie Brown dead: Coronation Street actor and comedian dies aged 82

Duggie Brown has died at the age of 82.

The legendary actor played the role of Ted Spear in the ITV soap earlier this year after a stellar career in comedy.

The much-loved star was also best known for appearing on The Comedians and he is the brother of actress and singer Lynne Perrie - who played Ivy Tilsley on Corrie for 23 years from 1971 to 1994.

Lynne sadly died in 2006 at the age of 74 after suffering from a stroke.

Duggie is best known for his comedy, and the star had performed his routines on various entertainment shows, including The Good Old Days.

He has also acted on stage in several productions, as well as starring on The Glamour Girls and House of Cards.

His small part in Corrie sparked a huge storyline for Faye and Emma, as they made a pact to keep his death a secret to prevent time behind bars.

Duggie's Coronation Street character, Ted, was hit by Faye Windass' car while driving home after a New Year’s Eve party.

Although his character seemed okay after the shock, he was later found dead in his armchair.

Following the news of Duggie's untimely death, his famous pals and fans alike have rushed to pay tribute to the talented star.

Tommy Cannon, who is one half of iconic duo Cannon and Ball, paid tribute to the actor following his death.

"Really sad to hear about the passing of Duggie Brown, Rest in peace pal, what a funny funny man- thinking of all your friends and family," he penned.

"So very sad to hear that actor, comedian and King Rat of The Grand Order Of Water Rats Duggie Brown passed away this morning aged 82. A gentle, witty and talented man and a good friend, he will be sadly missed and forever in our thoughts. #RIPDuggieBrown," another fan tweeted.

"Duggie Brown will be sadly missed. What a lovely man," someone else shared.

Over the years, Duggie has played one-off roles in many long-running television serials, including Crown Court, The Cuckoo Waltz, All Creatures Great and Small, The Bill, Minder, Last of the Summer Wine and Peak Practice.

The actor was one of the original co-hosts of the game show 3-2-1, with Ted Rogers and Chris Emmett.

From 1994 to 1996, he was a regular team captain on Barry Cryer's news game show Cryer's Crackers.

Rest in peace.
