The Duchess of Cambridge showed solidarity with Ukraine at the Commonwealth Day Service by wearing a royal blue Catherine Walker coat dress in homage to the nation’s flag.
Held at Westminster Abbey, Kate Middleton paired the dress with matching navy heels and a Lock & Co fascinator to double down on the monochrome look. The 40-year-old royal also sported a sapphire and diamond jewellery set allegedly from Princess Diana’s collection, which was also the same necklace and earrings she wore in October 2020 to meet Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife, Olena Zelensky, at Buckingham Palace.
It’s not the first time Kate has imbued her fashion with politics. Last Wednesday, she visited the Cultural Centre alongside Prince Williams wearing a vibrant blue £520 Alexander McQueen jumper and Ukrainian flag pin. However, the Commonwealth Day Service is an important annual ceremony that is observed by people from all 54 member countries, making her outfit choice – or rather, her clear signalling of support for Ukraine amid the ongoing war crisis – even more pertinent.
The duchess was joined by Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince William who all represented the Queen on her behalf. The 95-year-old monarch was unable to attend the event for the first time in nearly a decade due to her recent Covid-19 recovery.
