Dublin weather: Sunny spell over as Met Eireann forecasts cloudy and misty week with thunderstorms ahead

Met Eireann has forecast that today and most of the week ahead will be rather cloudy, with showers and thunderstorms.

Spain-like weather seems to be officially over for now, despite it still being rather warm, with temperatures reaching 21-22 degrees during the day. The weather will be unsettled with further thunderstorms during the first half of the week bringing localised flooding.

According to the national forecaster, today will be cloudy and showery with misty conditions in parts. The showers will mainly occur in the afternoon and evening, some turning heavy with the potential for some thunderstorms and local flooding. Met Eireann said warnings for thunderstorms and flooding were possible.

Despite the grey skies and rain, temperatures will still be relatively hot as the highest temperatures will reach 18 to 21 degrees Celsius in light to moderate southeast breezes. Pollen levels today will be "moderate to very high", and the solar UV Index shows we shouldn't skip putting our sunscreens on if going out as it is also "moderate to high".

Residual thundery showers will die away in the evening with just isolated showers following. Some mist or fog might be in place though with just light southwest breezes. Temperatures will drop to as low as 11 degrees Celsius.

Monday will be a similarly cloudy and showery day. Like recent days the showers will pep up in the afternoon and evening, some turning heavy with the potential for some thunderstorms and local flooding. Highest temperatures will reach 19 to 22 degrees Celsius in light to moderate southwest breezes.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, here is what Met Eireann's national outlook says:

Monday night

"Showers will become fewer, except for south and west coasts. Mild with lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees Celsius in just light southerly breezes. Misty in parts too, especially along the south coast.

Tuesday

"A cloudy and showery day with showers turning heavier into the afternoon and evening. Some thunderstorms are likely. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees Celsius in just light southerly breezes. Misty in parts again too.

Tuesday night

"Showers will become more isolated with drier and clearer conditions developing. Some misty conditions in parts too though. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees Celsius in just light southwest breezes.

Wednesday

"Sunny spells and scattered showers with a few heavy ones possible later across the north and east. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees Celsius with just light westerly breezes.

Thursday

"Sunny and spells and well scattered showers. Warm in sunshine with highest temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees Celsius in light southerly breezes.

Friday

"Cloudy and breezy with outbreaks of rain. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees Celsius."
