Dublin weather: 'Strong gusts' on the way with Yellow warning in place for entire country

It's set to be a wet, windy day for Dublin with a Status Yellow wind warning in place for the entire country today.

The weather warning which was issued by Met Eireann came into effect at 5am this morning and will last until 2am Friday and reads: “Westerly winds will be very strong and gusty from Thursday morning in the west at first, progressing eastwards from the afternoon, with particularly strong wind gusts especially around coasts and high ground in the northwest.”

Met Eireann has predicted strong gusts and have warned that the windy conditions could lead to power outages and travel disruption. Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly warned that it will be a "very windy" day ahead.

Here's Met Eireann's forecast for the coming days:

Today

"Westerly winds will be very strong and gusty across the country today. There will be a mix of sunny spells and showers. Afternoon temperatures of 7 or 8 degrees.

Tonight

"The showers will continue through tonight. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees with fresh to strong westerly winds.

Friday

"Tomorrow, Friday, showers in the morning will ease and there'll be sunshine for a time in the afternoon. Fresh and gusty westerly winds will ease in the afternoon too. Afternoon temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees.

Friday night

"A wet night Friday night as rain from the southwest spreads to all areas. Scattered showers will follow the clearance overnight. Becoming windy as fresh to strong southwesterly winds develop. Temperatures will fall to between 2 and 5 degrees as the rain clears towards morning.
