Dublin weather: Met Eireann predicts cool, breezy conditions as expert pinpoints return of 'frosty' weather

It's set to be a cool, breezy day for Dublin with Met Eireann predicting scattered showers for some parts of the country before a return of "frosty" conditions at the weekend.

Today will be mild and breezy and mainly dry. Plenty of cloud around with some bright spells. Highs of 10 or 11 degrees with moderate to fresh west to southwest winds.

Long dry spells tonight under mostly cloudy skies, with occasional outbreaks of light rain or drizzle overnight. Lowest temperatures broadly of 7 to 9 degrees. Mostly moderate west to southwest winds.

Meanwhile, a map has shown the dates when snow could potentially hit Ireland. WXCharts, a weather data viewer, shows a 20 to 30 per cent chance of the white stuff falling next Tuesday, February 7, and it also shows a possibility of snow on a number of days between Tuesday, February 7 and Friday, February 17.

In addition, Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly has indicated that this weekend may see a return to frosty conditions for some parts of the country. He wrote on Twitter last night: "The outlook remains largely settled with very little rainfall for most.

"Some showers next 48 hours and light band of rain crossing country Saturday but total rainfall amounts up to Monday night shown here. Cold Saturday night with a frosty but lovely looking Sunday."

Here's Met Eireann's forecast for the coming days:

Thursday night

"Long dry spells tonight under mostly cloudy skies, with occasional outbreaks of light rain or drizzle overnight. Lowest temperatures broadly of 7 to 9 degrees. Mostly moderate west to southwest winds.

Friday

"Friday will be dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Another relatively mild day with highest temperatures of 11 or 12 degrees in moderate westerly winds.

Friday night

"Staying largely dry on Friday night under mostly cloudy skies. Lowest temperatures generally between 5 to 8 degrees. Light to moderate southwest winds, fresh along Atlantic coasts.

Saturday

"Many areas will be dry to start but a band of rain and moderate to fresh southwest winds will move in from the Atlantic through the morning. It will brighten up in the north and west during the afternoon as rain tracks southeastwards across the country, becoming light and patchy. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees, but turning colder as rain clears with light northwest winds following."
