Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecasts return of subzero temperatures as expert warns of 'wind-chill'

Met Eireann have forecast that the mercury will continue to drop over the coming days, with many parts experiencing frost this morning as well as a bitterly cold wind-chill.

Any frost inland soon clearing after dawn. Another dry day today with varying amounts of cloud, and top temperatures of between 6 and 8 degrees in moderate east to southeast winds.

It'll be chilly night tonight with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 0 to +3 degrees in light mainly easterly winds with some frost forming under any clear spells, away from eastern fringes.

The news that colder conditions are expected in Ireland comes as Met Eireann has predicted temperatures will plummet in the coming days, with a weather expert giving his opinion on the potential return of the Beast from the East that wreaked havoc on the country in 2018. Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather has all but ruled out another Beast from the East, saying there is "no sign of any repeat" despite predicting a colder March.

The weather expert warned that much of the country will experience "wind-chill" today Sunday, which is the effect that wind has on how cold it feels outside. He tweeted: "Sunny spells again on Sunday with a dry day feeling cool in the Easterly wind, especially in the morning. Wrap up and enjoy the fine weather as high pressure dominates.

"Another fresh morning with coldest spot in Northwest. Some nice sunny spells today but feeling cool in the wind-chill," he added.

Here's Met Eireann's forecast for the coming days:

National overview:

"Fairly settled as high pressure will be positioned near Ireland bringing mostly dry weather. Rather cold at times with the chance of some frosty nights.

Monday

"Mainly dry tomorrow with variable cloud cover. Afternoon highs ranging from 6 to 8 degrees in light to moderate east or southeast breezes.

Monday night

"Cloud will break up in some areas on Monday night although there will be some patchy outbreaks of light rain or drizzle at times near the east coast. Low temperatures will fall back to between -1 and +3 degrees generally in very light northeasterly or variable winds, and some icy stretches can't be ruled out. Some mist and fog patches too.

Tuesday

"The best of the sunny spells on Tuesday will be in the morning, although it will be mostly cloudy in Leinster where there is the chance of some patchy light rain or drizzle. It will generally turn cloudier across the country in the afternoon with limited bright spells. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in mostly light or moderate northeast winds.

Tuesday night

"Mostly dry on Tuesday night with early cloud gradually giving way to some clear spells with some patchy rain or drizzle possible at times in the southeast. Lowest temperatures of -1 to 4 degrees, coolest in the northwest with some frost possible in light northeasterly breezes.

Wednesday

"Similar to Tuesday, with best of the bright spells away from the east coast in the morning. Cloud will bubble up across the country through the afternoon, and while it will be mostly dry, a few patches of rain and drizzle are possible, mostly in the south and east. Highest afternoon temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate easterly winds.
