Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecasts return of cold blast with potential for weather warnings

Met Eireann has issued a chaotic forecast for the week as low pressure will dominate Ireland.

Heavy rain and strong winds will hammer the country with possible weather warnings on the horizon. A forecaster said: "As a result of the frequent rain and showers, the week will be wetter than average nationwide, but it will also be milder than average with temperatures trending a degree or two above the normal.

"There is some potential for wind and rain warnings during the period." The national forecaster also warned that a cold blast is on the way as temperatures will plummet towards the end of the week with a northwesterly airstream feeding in sunshine and showers.

Today will start off frosty with some mist patches. It will be a largely dry day with sunny spells, though cloud is expected to increase later. Daytime temperatures will be around 8 to 10 degrees.

Tonight will be mainly dry but a band of rain is expected to spread overnight. The temperatures will hit the lows of 4 to 6 degrees.

Tomorrow will be cloudy with widespread rain during the morning that will gradually ease to scattered showers from the afternoon. Blustery winds will veer moderate southwesterly as the rain clears with highs of 13 to 15 degrees.

There is no further forecast for Dublin but here's what the national outlook says:

Tuesday night

"Scattered showers slowly clearing. Dry for a time before another band of rain moves in from the west and south around dawn. A mild night with lows of 8 to 10 degrees in light southerly breezes, freshening again and increasing strong around coasts.

Wednesday

"A fairly wet day with scattered blustery showers or longer spells of rain, becoming drier in the evening. Staying mild with highs of 12 to 15 degrees and fresh to strong southerly winds becoming moderate southwesterly winds later."
