Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecasts 'heavy and persistent' showers with risk of spot flooding

Dubliners are being warned to not put away the brollies just yet, with a few blustery days of rain and a washout weekend.

While temperatures remain high, widespread rain is on the way with the possibility of more thunder by the weekend. Met Eireann has forecast "heavy and persistent" showers for Dublin throughout the day on Thursday with a risk of spot flooding in some areas later in the evening.

A freshening southerly wind will bring rain and drizzle today. Highest temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees as southerly winds become fresh to strong.

It will be windy tonight with rain, heavy in places leading to possible spot flooding. Mild and humid with lowest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees.

Meanwhile, Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly has said that the east of the country which includes Dublin will see "far less rain" compared to the west. He wrote on Twitter: "Latest high resolution charts showing the rain and gusts forecast with over 40mm possible in parts of the West over the next 36 hours.

"Winds gusting up to 90kmh also. East seeing far less rain though."

Here's Met Eireann's forecast for the coming days:

Friday

Tomorrow, Friday, scattered heavy showers in the morning will become less frequent and lighter in the afternoon with some sunny spells later. Warm and humid, especially in any sunshine with highest temperatures of 20 to 22 degrees, in mostly fresh southeast winds.

Friday night

Friday night will start dry for many with showers or longer spells of rain developing in the west again. Lowest temperatures 15 or 16 degrees in fresh to strong southeast winds.

Saturday

On Saturday thundery rain will move northwards across the country. Sunshine and moderating westerly breezes will later follow. Highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees.

Saturday night will be mainly dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures 10 or 11 degrees in light southerly winds.

Sunday

After a dry start Sunday afternoon showers will be widespread and heavy with possible spot flooding. Highest temperatures 17 to 21 degrees, in light to moderate southerly breezes.
