Dublin weather: Heavy rain to blast capital as Met Eireann issue Yellow warnings for 12 counties

Dublin will be hit by heavy rain today as the bad weather spell continues across the country.

Met Eireann have issued a Status Yellow wind and rain warning for all of Munster and Connacht. The warning is valid from 1pm to 10pm today and spot flooding is expected.

A Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for Clare, Donegal, Leitrim, Galway, Mayo and Sligo. This is valid from 10pm tonight until noon tomorrow as southeasterly winds, veering southwesterly will reach mean speeds of 50 - 65km/h with gusts of 90 - 110km/h, higher near coasts and exposed areas.

Finally, Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for Kerry and Limerick. This is valid from 10pm tonight until 6am tomorrow. Southerly winds, veering southwesterly will reach mean speeds of 50 - 65km/h with gusts of 90 - 110km/h, higher near coasts and exposed areas.

While no weather warnings have been issued for Dublin, Met Eireann has warned the capital to expect heavy rain today. Their Dublin forecast for today reads: "A calm, bright, and mostly dry start this morning. Cloud will build through the day, bringing outbreaks of heavy rain during the afternoon and evening.

"Becoming breezy with the rain as southeast winds increase moderate to fresh. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees."

Tonight will be "very windy" in Dublin with strong southwest winds. Outbreaks of heavy rain will clear overnight, with clear spells following. Lowest temperatures will be 7 to 10 degrees.

Tomorrow, the windy weather will continue across Dublin with "fresh to strong westerly winds persisting". It will be mostly dry and sunny, with winds easing light in the afternoon, and highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, here is what Met Eireann's National Outlook says:

Tuesday

"A good deal of dry weather with sunny spells. Turning cloudier through the day with rain developing in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in moderate to fresh easterly winds.

Wednesday

"A wet day for many areas with persistent and at times heavy falls of rain, especially in the south. Possibly staying dry in the north with some sunny spells. Another breezy day with fresh easterly winds. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees.

Thursday

"A mostly dry start to Thursday with sunny spells. Rain will return in the south later in the day. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with fresh southeasterly winds."
