Dublin weather: Expert forecasts hottest day of the year as 29C temps to scorch Ireland

Ireland is bracing itself as temperatures are set to rise even further over the next coming days.

An independent forecaster has revealed that the mercury could hit a sweltering 29 degrees next week. Weather Alerts Ireland said on Facebook: "Warm weather is expected to continue for the rest of the week and into next week.

"Humidity will be an issue though towards the weekend. Temperatures overnight could well stay near the mid-teens which will make it feel fairly uncomfortable. With this humidity, there would be an increased risk of thunderstorms forming!

"Next week the ECMWF model is forecasting even hotter air to push over Ireland. As high as 29 degrees is forecast! Still plenty of uncertainty on this."

Met Eireann has confirmed that a humid airmass will surround the country this weekend bringing showers. The national forecaster said: "Staying warm and largely dry until the weekend. Saturday and Sunday should see showers develop over the country in a quite humid airmass."

Today will start off bright in Dublin with some good spells of sunshine. It will turn hazy from the afternoon as cloud will build.

It will be dry but cool due to an easterly breeze with the highest temperatures struggling to reach 16 to 19 degrees.

Tomorrow will be mostly dry with a light to moderate easterly breeze but more cloud will build in the afternoon making the sunshine hazy. The highest temperatures will be around 18 to 20 degrees.

There is no further forecast for Dublin but here's what Met Eireann's national outlook says:

Friday night

"Mainly dry early on Friday evening but cloud will continue to increase with one or two isolated showers moving over parts of the south later on. It will stay dry elsewhere before showers move further north overnight. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees with a light to moderate easterly breeze, fresh at times in the south.

Saturday

"Generally cloudy with showers moving up from the south to all areas through the morning and afternoon. Some of the showers may be heavy at times too. Staying quite mild though with highest temperatures of 18 to 25 degrees, coolest in the south.

Saturday night

"A cloudy and wet night in store as showers continue to move over the country during the evening but they will gradually clear overnight. Mild again overnight with some isolated mist or fog patches. Lowest temperatures not expected to fall below 13 to 16 degrees as light easterly breezes turn southerly.

Sunday

"A mix of cloudy cloud and isolated showers but there will be some occasional sunny spells at times too. Highest temperature of 20 to 24 degrees in light winds."
