Eirgrid has announced plans for five new underground cable routes in Dublin.
The public have been invited to discuss the proposed electricity overhaul, which would see 50km of underground cables installed in Dublin. Eirgrid has said that the consultation process, spanning eight weeks, will allow the project to go ahead with minimal disruption.
The new routes will link substations at North Wall and Poolbeg, Finglas and North Wall and Carrickmines and Poolbeg. Meanwhile, two cables will link the Inchicore and Poolbeg substations.

EirGrid's Head of Public Engagement Sinead Dooley said: "Work must be done now to ensure the city’s electricity infrastructure is fit for purpose, resilient and will endure long into the future. We want to work with the public and listen to local voices who know their areas best, so that we can collaborate as much as possible and minimise the disruption caused to them.”
The electric power company described Dublin's electricity system as ageing and in need of an overhaul, as many electricity cables in Dublin were first installed over 50 years ago. Eirgrid says that more electricity generated from renewable sources will be used following completion of the project.
The consultation process will end on May 23 and will give residents and business owners an opportunity to discuss 12 route options across the city. Work on the programme is expected to begin next year.
There will be a combination of public information events and online webinars about the proposals, which the public are invited to attend. People can also submit feedback at a range of drop in clinics on specified dates.
The dates and times for both the information sessions and drop in clinics are as follows.
