The process to restore Dublin's iconic Victorian fruit and vegetable market is set to begin as Dublin City Council search for a design team.
The tender process to find the perfect team to begin the plans has begun to bring the historic building on St Mary's Lane back to life. Conservation works are needed on the landmark building, with hopes that its redevelopment will also give a significant boost to the local area in Dublin 7.
A conservation specialist has already been assigned to the building with the design team expected to follow those specifications. There are significant specialist conservation and structural works required on the building, with full funding expected to be approved next year.

The historic red brick building, owned by Dublin City Council, was closed for redevelopment in August 2019. It reopened briefly for two days in January 2020 as part of the Dublin Chinese New Year Festival.
It is hoped that when refurbishment works are completed that the market will be similar to the likes of the English Market in Cork or Belfast’s St George’s Market. So far development surrounding the market has included a multi-use games area, public realm improvements and a car park / loading area at St Mary’s Lane.
