Dublin restaurants: City centre spot introduces fairy tale inspired menu

Six by Nico on Dublin's Molesworth street is gearing up to launch a new menu inspired by classic fairy tales and fantasy.

The restaurant, which opened in November, changes its menu entirely every six weeks. When it first opened, it brought Dubs a six course set menu of chipper inspired grub that aimed to transport them back to childhood.

Now, the childhood theme seems to be staying alive with the incorporation of imaginative fairy tale inspired dishes.

Aptly named One Upon a Time, the menu is described as a "culinary wonderland" that takes diners on an enchanting journey "through the huggable bear from Peru's adventures in London, across the dark and mysterious forest that surrounds the Beast's Castle and into the river with the Ugly Duckling as he matures into a majestic swan".

The six course menu includes the Oliver Twist (confit potato, hay baked potato mousseline, preserved wild garlic and pickled onion), the Paddington Bear Marmalade (sourdough bruschetta, ox cheek ragout, mushroom XO marmalade and truffle) and The Ugly Duckling (duck leg boulangere with pickled walnut, salsify, toasted cereal, pear and fig).

Speaking about the unique new menu, restaurant founder Nico Simeone said: "Our 'Once Upon A Time' theme is a gastronomic journey through the enchanting realm of fairy tales and folklore.

"It's also a new chapter for Six by Nico Dublin as we introduce a new wave of engaging themes that provide our customers with unique food and drink experiences."

Nico spoke to Dublin Live ahead of the opening in November, explaining that Dublin was always on his radar.

He said: "It's a place I used to go with my wife when we were younger. We've been looking for about three and a bit years, and we just couldn't get anything at the start."

The fairy tale inspired menu is priced at €45 per person with the option to add an expertly selected wine and specialist drinks pairing with each dish for an extra €39.

Once Upon a Time runs from Tuesday, February 1 until Sunday, March 13.
