A popular Dublin restaurant chain is giving away free crepes in celebration of Pancake Tuesday next week.
Gino's Gelato will be offering sugar and lemon crepes and Nutella crepes from 9am to 12pm on Tuesday, February 21. Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday, was traditionally the last day to get rid of all the fatty foods that weren't eaten during Lent.
Historically, Irish families would make pancakes to use up items like eggs, sugar, and milk before Ash Wednesday in preparation for the 40 days of fasting. Although fasting for Lent is not as common anymore, the tradition of Pancake Tuesday has stuck with many restaurants offering free pancakes every year.

“Favourites include Gino’s chocolate Oreo crepe (crushed Oreos, white chocolate sauce, fresh cream and Gino’s melted Oreo variegato), Gino’s Special (Nutella, sliced banana and chopped strawberries) or the Traditional (lemon, butter and sugar).”
