Dublin pubs: Lucan landmark the Foxhunter to open again after 10 year closure

Today sees a long-missed local watering hole return to the delight of Lucan dwellers as the Foxhunter pub reopens with some exciting new additions.

The beloved venue, which is located on the N4, returns with the additions of Elephant & Castle restaurant next door, ample parking with electric charge points and an onsite car valet service. The pub first opened its doors in in the early 1900s and has sat idle since closing in 2012. Following a refurbishment, the Foxhunter now promises to bring quality food and drink to Lucan locals.

Owners of the newly revamped establishment are promising visitors great drinks, warm service, live music and good craic. The refurbishments have seen the pub retain its cosy, traditional pub atmosphere and features plenty of seating, screens for catching all the sport, a large central bar, and a dedicated events space.

The Foxhunter was previously known for a bustling spot for live music in Lucan. Upon reopening, the pub will play host to live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Local legends The Jazz Freaks, who played weekly at the Foxhunter for 25 years until its closure, will kick things off this coming Sunday, June 26 between 1pm and 2.30pm.

The pub will also be home to a Wowburger which serves classic hamburgers, hand cut fries, shakes and sundaes for dine in or takeaway. Meanwhile there is a dedicated kids play area in Elephant & Castle next door which features giant-sized games, a climbing wall and castle, movie screen, bean bags and more.

General Manager Paul Hopkins said: "Between the Foxhunter Pub, Elephant & Castle, our kids area, and the lovely outdoor terrace, there is really something for everyone."

For the foodies in the area, three delicious Dublin takeaways will arrive at the Foxhunter. RICE, Coo Coo Indian and Double 8 Dumplings will have kitchens launching at the Foxhunter in July of this year.
