Dublin players were hailed by fans after staying on the pitch to sign autographs and get photos with supporters following their relegation to Division 2 of the Allianz Football League on Sunday.
The Boys in Blue lost to Monaghan by 3-13 to 1-18 in Clones as Jack McCarron's last-gasp 40-metre free preserved Monaghan’s Division 1 status.
A draw would have sent Monaghan and Dublin down, but McCarron’s dramatic winner ended up saving his own side and relegating Kildare, who lost in Mayo and finished on five points
McCarron’s winner - part of a stunning 2-6 haul - moved Monaghan on to six points and safety.
It also maintained Monaghan’s proud record of playing Division 1 football every season since 2015, making them the second-longest serving team in the top flight after Kerry.
For Dublin, next year will be the first time since 2008 that they play Division 2 football.
But fans praised Dublin's players, including Dean Rock, who waited on the pitch to meet and greet supporters after the game.
One tweeted: "Credit to Dublin players, get relegated but still signing jerseys at end of game."
Another said: "Fair play to @Deanrock14 and all those players who are so obliging, even after a hard defeat. Always a credit to Dublin GAA and very much appreciated by the fans."
