Dublin legend Michael Fitzsimons hailed as a 'class act' after emotional RTE interview

Dublin legend Michael Fitzsimons has been hailed as a 'class act' after an interview with RTE on Saturday night.

The eight-time All-Ireland winner was Player of the Game as Cuala narrowly lost to Kilmacud Crokes in Parnell Parl.

Cuala were underdogs going into the game against last year's All-Ireland finalists Kilmacud Crokes who boast stars such as Shane Walsh and Paul Mannion and narrowly lost out.

With just five minutes to go Cuala were trailing by a single point and lost out to Crokes by just two points.

And Fitzsimons stood in front of RTE cameras as he spoke candidly about the loss.

"It's probably hard to put the disappointment into words without getting emotional. We've played second fiddle to the hurlers for a long time and when you see lads like Luke Keating, who have sacrificed so much, not getting over the line there. I think we had a huge opportunity. Probably lacked a bit of experience coming from senior 2.

"We didn't do enough. And I feel so responsible, we couldn't get it out of defence there. A lot of people have put in a huge amount of work in Cuala football to get us here - it's not an achievement making it to a quarter final but it is a stepping stone for us. But yeah, it's just a bit emotional. It was a missed opportunity."

And the three-time All Star was praised for his raw honesty with one social media user saying: "Jaysus is there a more classier guy then Mick Fitz in the GAA?"

While another said: "A superstar!! We take for granted how good he is!!"

And another said: "What a player. What a gent. For me he is one of the all time Dublin greats. Hopefully the Dubs get one more year from him."

While another added: "Mick Fitz , a best man at a wedding in Brighton yesterday and puts in a man of the match performances 24 hours later. The lads sacrifice so much that goes unnoticed. The ultimate professional."
