Irish Rail have launched a new paid apprenticeship campaign for multiple roles.
The transport service are looking for female and male apprentices who would be aged 16 or over on the 1st of September 2023. They will be joining their team across four trades: Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic; Apprentice Fitter; Apprentice Electrician; Apprentice (OEM) Original Equipment Manufacturing.
The apprenticeships will be on an ‘Earn as you Learn’ basis and during the On-the-Job phases, apprentices will be paid based on a percentage of a qualified craftworkers pay scale and in line with industry standards. This increases year upon year while completing the Apprenticeship Programme. During Off-the-Job phases, the Apprentice will be paid by SOLAS.

Irish Rail have said this job is ideal for people who enjoy practical work and working with their hands, as well as those who want to earn their academic qualification while working in a "globally recognised industry". Their perfect candidate would have the attitude to succeed and would be traveling and working around the rail network while completing their apprenticeship.
The role advertisement also says: "Each Apprentice will be trained to a very high standard and will be participating in internal and external training courses throughout their programme. Each Apprentice will be circulated across our network, gain exposure to all elements of the business and get to work on our various fleet types and assets across the rail network."
