Dublin Fringe Festival announces its 2022 programme full of diverse art and performances

Dublin Fringe Festival has announced its full programme of events for 2022, returning to a full scale in-person event for the first time since 2019.

The festival kicks off on Saturday, September 10 and runs until Sunday, September 25.

This year's programme promises to "shift your perspective and offer you release" as it introduces you to "the weird, the hyper-local and those who forge their own path".

This year's festival is divided into eight chapters with each having a particular theme or concept overarching the pieces of work featured under it.

Big Nights Out aims to champion the art that is "made after dark with glittering, unforgettable cabaret, clubbing and comedy".

Meanwhile, Escapades will feature adventurous live art along with audio and interdisciplinary experiences.

Trailblazers and Mavericks will include genre-bending, innovative performances from one of a kind artists, while Punchlines will feature alternative comedy experiences.

Young Radicals consists of thoughtful visual art, theatre and interactive events made for audiences under the age of 18.

This City focuses on Dublin with performances, podcasts and parties. Plays Plays Plays will consist of theatre from up and coming playwrights.

Future and Legacies will be full of dance, live art, talks and performances that "challenge inheritances and envisage futures".

Dublin Fringe Festival Artistic Director and CEO Ruth McGowan said: "This programme prizes joy and play, togetherness and truth, beauty and defiance, with experiences made by some of the most courageous and compelling artists in the country.

"We’re inviting audiences to round up their friends and follow an artist somewhere new.

"There are after dark adventures for the night-owls, sunrise performances that reimagine the city centre, and plenty of the unusual, one-of-a-kind Fringe experiences that you’ll be talking about for weeks afterwards."

Tickets for the full 2022 Dublin Fringe Festival programme of events go on sale at 1pm on Thursday, July 21 at fringefest.com.
