Dublin football club pays tribute to 'legend' former coach David McGuinness who passed away

Lourdes Celtic FC has led tributes for a former coach and “legend” who passed away.

David "Davey" McGuinness, from Crumlin, passed away peacefully after a short illness on June 12, 2022.

And his club posted on Facebook about the man who left a "massive impact" on them.

They said: “Everyone in Lourdes Celtic FC are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our ex-Managers and a Lourdes Legend, David McGuinness.

“David had a great impact on so many players in Lourdes Celtic from our Academy Section to our football teams.

“He had a massive impact on the club. We send our condolences to the McGuinness Family on his passing. Rest in Peace David."

One person said: "Such heartbreaking news. Davey has been my neighbour for 20 odd years all moved in at the same time.

"He will be sadly missed, a lovely lovely man, our thoughts are with his family at this awful sad time . RIP Davey."

Another added: "A fantastic man in every way. You will be missed by so many. RIP Dave, a great Crumlin man."

A third added: "Lovely bloke Dave, coached with him in the schools for a few years always put a smile on your face, condolences to the family will be missed by us all in Birchalls. RIP."

A final said: "Great Guy. Always willing to help and get stuck in whenever it was needed . Rest in peace David."

David was surrounded by his loving family at St. James' Hospital when he passed. He is predeceased by his parents Chrissie and Peter and his sister Tina.

He is the beloved husband of Grainne and much-loved father of David and Sinead.

He will be sadly missed and never forgotten by his loving wife and family, his brothers Peter, Mick, John, and Pat, sisters Maria and Marguerite, Sinead’s Partner Aaron, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

His funeral service took place on Wednesday at Newlands Cross Chapel, Newlands Cross Crematorium.
