Dublin firefighters have bid a warm farewell to a distinguished officer on his retirement following 40 years of service.

A spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade said: "A long time instructor and former Assistant Brigade Training Officer, he has trained and mentored a countless number of firefighters and officers in many recruit classes and specialised courses in his 40 years.

"His drive and energy saw him move quickly through the ranks of the brigade, Sub-Officer, Station Officer and District Officer. He worked across logistics, training and operations before his appointment as Mobi.

"He stood on his final parade with his family and close friends as 'C' watch treated him with a send-off fitting of the Firefighter he was.

"Best wishes on your next chapter Tom. Enjoy a long, healthy and happy retirement."

A number of well-wishers took to the comments to congratulate Tom on his retirement.

One person said: "Congrats, Tom, I'll miss the banter and the stories. Enjoy the retirement."

Another person added: "Enjoy your retirement, thank you for keeping us safe all those years."

A colleague said: "Congrats, Tom, you will be missed by all in admin!! Enjoy the free time, you deserve it!!"
