Dublin Fire Brigade have shared footage that shows how dangerous a dry Christmas tree can be.
The video shows how quick a dry tree will light up and consume your living room and how a watered tree resists the flames. After ten seconds, the dry tree was covered in flames and by 40 seconds the room was covered by the blaze.
Meanwhile, the flames did not take to the watered tree at all. Dublin Fire Brigade advise keeping a real Christmas tree in a base that allows it to be watered and to ensure fakes trees carry an EU safety mark.

They tweeted: "Let's talk Christmas trees. Real trees dry out over the season.
"Make sure you put it in a base that allows you to keep it watered. The warmer the room the quicker it will wilt."
They added: "If you choose an artificial tree, ensure it carries the European CE safety mark."
Lidl are selling cheap Christmas trees this year and Dublin Live have compiled pictures to see what they look like decorated.
