Tributes are pouring in for a well-respected Dublin Fire Brigade officer after nearly four decades of service.
Sub officer Derek "Wally" Walsh is set to retire after 38 years of working for the emergency services. A DFB spokesperson said: "Last weekend, after 38 years, we said goodbye to Sub Officer Derek Walsh. Derek served in Kilbarrack Fire Station on A Watch before a promotion saw him move to North Strand station.
"Well known for team sports he is also an active member of our cycling club. Thanks, Wally"

Friends, colleagues, and well wishers took to social media to wish Walsh all the best for his "next adventure". One person said: "It’s been an absolute pleasure to have worked and socialised with you, Wally. You will be badly missed and will be irreplaceable as a character and a friend.
"A gentleman and a scholar. I wish you health wealth and happiness."
Another person added: "Happy Retirement Derek - let the next adventure begin." A third person said: "Congratulations, Derek, hope you have a long, healthy and happy retirement."
