Dublin Bus hopes to expand 24-hour routes 'throughout the network'

Dublin Bus have said they hope to see wider rollout of their 24 hour services due to "extremely high" demand.

As well as their Nitelink services, Dublin Bus also operates six 24 hour routes throughout the capital.

Dublin Bus Chief Executive Ray Coyne told Newstalk that more routes have been introduced recently to assist the night-time economy.

He said: "We've had our Nitelinks for over 20 years now but what we have been introducing over the past 18 months is a 24-hour network to assist with the night-time economy. We engage with businesses of the night-time economy working group.

"We've six 24 hour services at present operating on top of our Nitelinks. They would be standard bus fares and operate traditional routes.

"Probably the most successful one at present would be route 15.

"We're looking to see if we can increase the frequency on those services... the demand is extremely high and it gives people greater access."

Mr Coyne said they hope they can roll out more services with the support of the NTA and Government.

"We've seen a good increase over the last 18 months," he said.

"With the NTA and with Government support, we'd hope to see that rolled out throughout the network to give a good even spread.

"So everybody will have continued access to public transportation 24 hours."
