Dublin Bus filmed driving on footpath to avoid traffic as full investigation launched

An investigation is underway after a Dublin Bus driver was filmed driving down a footpath

Earlier this week, the vehicle was captured driving down Rathfarnham Road with one wheel on the footpath and the other in a cycle lane.

Kevin Gorman first posted the shocking video to social media, writing: "So there I was, sitting in traffic that was stopped between Rathfarnham and Terenure when a Dublin Bus went past me on the inside, in the pavement and bicycle Lane. 11am today."

The bus passes a number of houses on the road, with driveways which would have a restricted view if a car or child was coming out of them.

Naturally, people were fuming and called on both Dublin Bus and the Gardai to investigate the matter.

A Dublin Bus spokesperson has confirmed that a "full investigation" into the incident has been launched, noting that they take all incidents "extremely seriously”.

Fianna Fáil Councillor James Connolly said: "This is completely unacceptable , I’m glad to hear an investigation has been launched by Dublin Bus.

"A clear case of dangerous driving that I’m sure Gardai will also be investigating."

One user responded by pointing out: "Imagine pushing a buggy out your front gate only for a bus to wipe it away in a blink of an eye. Absolutely unforgivable driving. Basically reckless or dangerous driving without care for life."

A number of cyclists also responded with their own experience of being on the roads, with one writing: "This is genuinely terrifying and shows how in the last month I've been knocked off at traffic lights and was nearly hit by two cars trying to jump a roundabout in front of me"
