Dublin broadcaster Gareth O'Callaghan 'very excited' as he announces return to the airwaves

Legendary Dublin broadcaster Gareth O’Callaghan is set to return to the airwaves with an exciting new Saturday morning show.

The broadcaster will host 'Gareth O'Callaghan At The Weekend' on Saturday mornings 10am to 2pm and will feature a blend of classic hits, presented in his own inimitable style.

In 2018, Gareth left his job as a DJ and presenter on Classic Hits 4FM back in August of that year due to his declining health after being diagnosed with the neurodegenerative illness Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).

Commenting on his return, Gareth O’Callaghan said: “I’m very excited to get back to Ireland's Classic Hits Radio after a three and a half year break, to present a new Saturday morning show from 10am to 2pm. Ireland's Classic Hits Radio is one of the most exciting radio stations around and I can't wait to get back to the studio and get back on-air”.

He added: "I'm invigorated, feeling great and positive about the future. I want to share this positivity with all the listeners and am so looking forward to getting behind the mic once again".

Gareth’s most notable contributions to radio include 15 years of presenting Gareth O'Callaghan in the Afternoon on 2FM to a listenership of over 275,000, launching Brendan O’Carroll’s original radio play, Mrs Brown’s Boys, and his 9 year stint Ireland's Classic Hits Radio between 2009 and 2018.

Kevin Branigan, CEO, Ireland's Classic Hits Radio said: "We're delighted to welcome Gareth back to Ireland's Classic Hits Radio, he is one of the most influential voices in modern Irish radio and it will be a pleasure to hear his voice gracing our airwaves once again.

"His enthusiasm is Infectious and we're looking forward to welcoming him back".

The popular presenter tweeted the good news to his fans last night, saying: "I'm working so hard on keeping the physical strength intact. Not easy. Legs!! So many challenges but I'm up for every one of them! I'm grateful my voice feels as strong as ever. My legs need constant work but I will fight this illness for as long as I can. MSA will never beat me!

"My voice should've been one of the first casualties, the same as motor neuron disease, but I've been blessed that my voice is good as ever. Don't know why. I do all my vocal exercises. Lots of other challenges but I'm learning about pain. Much love tonight if you're not the best."
