Dublin band Wild Youth in running to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2023

Dublin band 'Wild Youth' have been announced as a possible candidate to represent Ireland at this years Eurovision.

The group have sold out tours in Ireland and the UK, and band member Conor O'Donohoe has written some top hits for other artists and has co-written with Moncrief and The Script. The band said: "Eurovision is something we have always loved and we would love to represent our country."

Their song 'We are one' was written with Grammy nominated songwriter Jörgen Elofsson and the band say they "hope that everyone loves the song that we’ve written and believe we can be the band to represent Ireland this year."

However, the band will be competing with five other acts including Public Limited Image, fronted by John Lydon, who was known as Johnny Rotten in his days of being a member of the famous punk band Sex Pistols.

PiL's entry is called 'Hawaii' and it is a love song dedicated to Lydon's wife of almost 50 years who is currently living with Alzheimer's, as he recalls one of their happiest memories together in Hawaii.

The song is described as described as "a pensive, personal yet universal love song that will resonate with many" and is also "dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most".

The four other acts that are in the running to represent Ireland at the 67th Eurovision contest are ADGY, Leila Jane, K Muni & ND (Kofi Appiah and Nevlonne Dampare) and Jennifer Connolly.

ADGY is a singer and songwriter from Co Donegal whose music career took off 2020 and since then he has accumulated over 10 million streams globally for his music.

Jennifer Connolly is in her first year of Creative Music Production at IADT/Sound Training College in Dublin and has always had a passion for music her whole life.

K Muni & ND are a duo from Co Longford and their song is about going through a difficult period in their career when they were struggling to get their music heard and how anything is possible if you're determined.

Leila Jane is a singer based in Dublin and was once described as "one to watch" by Late Date presenter Cathal Murray.

The six entries will go head to head on a special showing of The Late Late Show on Friday, February 3 and the winner will be selected through a combination of public votes and International jury.
