Dublin band using Tinder to get girls to go to concert

A Dublin band is using Tinder to get girls to go to their concert in the Sugar Club next month.

The Plastic Cowboys are an indie rock band based in Dublin, who formed in 2019. They are playing the Sugar Club in a few weeks and they struggled to come up with ways to advertise their gig - but then they had a lightbulb moment.

Ciaran McGann, who does vocals and guitar, told Dublin Live: “We can’t wait for our gig in the Sugar Club. The last time we played Whelan's so we’re trying to one-up ourselves.

“We’re trying to get in everyone's face now with the marketing. We were talking amongst ourselves about how to advertise, we talked about posers and other ways of doing it. But then Darren said we could do something on Tinder - within the hour I made everything for it and we’ve been spamming everyone with likes.

“We've had loads of matches, it has outperformed any of our own accounts. We’re going to be messaging people details about the gig.”

Their Tinder Bio reads: "Are you looking for the perfect date? Well you'll need the perfect venue too. We are playing The Sugar Club on October 7th and our mission other than to play a very fun gig, is for you to fall in love.

"If you buy tickets to our gig for your next first date, we guarantee there will be a second. Swipe right for more details. *we can not guarantee a second date*"

Ciaran explained the process of building the account and how they’ve already gotten into trouble because of it. He said: “The age range is standard, I think it’s 18 to 35. We started off doing it for lads and girls but we’ve since changed it to girls because we’ve gotten a few reports from the lads.

“I think, you can correct me if I’m wrong, the main difference between Tinder for lads and girls is that lads go on it because they’re h*rny and girls go on it because they’re bored. So when lads see us pop up they probably get p*ssed off.

“We’re all idiots so we’re trying to embrace that. We’re very unhinged so I don’t think there’s any chance of controlling us. Anytime we go out together…I think the less I say, the better actually.”

The Plastic Cowboys have released a statement regarding the account, it reads: “Tinder has issued us an account warning for advertising our gig, but we are providing an essential service for tinder by hosting their users' dates. It’s a win-win situation, and if Tinder decides they have an issue with it, then I think that proves they’re designed to keep you on the app… wouldn’t you agree?”

The four-piece have several songs on Spotify already and are also releasing a brand new EP called “Title” next Friday. You can buy tickets to the Plastic Cowboys gig in the Sugar Club on October 7, 2022 here.
