Dublin Airport passengers furious as snow strands them on planes

Dublin Airport passengers are reporting being stuck on planes due to treacherous snow and ice.

Passengers took to social media to complain they were being kept on planes for lengthy periods of time, with nothing being offered to them. Twitter users were critical of the daa’s response to the weather and asked for more clarity.

One user, who reports being on a plane runway since 7:30am, complained: “Not one bottle of water offered to any passengers unless we pay for it when we should be offered it after 2hrs of a delay. No sign of plane taking off as waiting on de-icing team… crazy!”

The snowfall has led to natural disruptions to traffic flow across the country. Dublin Airport is currently experiencing delays to both inbound and outbound flights due to icy conditions and sub zero temperatures.

A Ryanair passenger complained online about being forced to wait three and a half hours for a departing flight. They also mentioned that no food or drink was offered to inconvenienced passengers during this period.

They wrote: “Whole first day of our trip will be gone all for not even a foot of snow. How the airport is so unprepared when this was predicted for weeks. Shocking!”

People were critical of both the slow process of de-icing aircrafts and the decision to board passengers during the unfolding weather event. They voiced concern over an apparent lack of communication towards inconvenienced passengers.

The daa confirmed to Dublin Live that both runways and taxiways had been in operation all morning at the airport. They told passengers to contact the airline they were travelling with for updated flight information.

A daa spokesperson said: “Some airlines are experiencing delays to their flight schedules due to difficulties de-icing their aircraft. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information.”
