Dublin Airport chiefs are urging passengers to “get the bus” amid claims that some are ditching their vehicles in local housing estates.
The airport is close to large urban centres like Swords and Santry where residents have told The Star that cars are being parked outside people’s homes and clogging up already congested roads while the drivers get a taxi to catch their flight.
Local councillors have been petitioned by their constituents about the problems, which is being blamed on parking issues at the airport, including costs. For example, the airport’s website was last night charging €81 to park a family car for two nights at both the airport’s T2 short-term and long-term facilities.

A worker at the airport said: “It’s really expensive. It’s no surprise that people are parking elsewhere.” But motorists have been warned that parking enforcement is in operation in some areas.
Dublin City Councillor Daryl Bannon said: “People who park their cars for a few days could go off and return to find their vehicle clamped.” Cars with registration plates from different parts of the country have been reported to park up for periods of up to a week.
Councillors for the Fingal area of north Co Dublin also confirmed reports of the problem from their constituents. They said: “Parking for residents is always an issue and they don’t need extra congestion making it worse”.
Swords Councillor Joe Newman added: “Having Dublin Airport passengers parking on their doorstep is certainly not what residents want. Dublin Airport Authority needs to get more involved, but I don’t have faith that they can manage the problem.”
DAA’s media relations manager Graeme McQueen told The Irish Daily Star: “Passengers can travel to and from Dublin Airport through a number of means, including by bus. There are more than 1,000 buses and coaches moving in and out of the airport every single day.”
He added: “Passengers seeking to park a car at Dublin Airport are advised to book into one of our numerous car parks in advance online via DublinAirport.com.”
