Dublin Airport makes 'kind gesture' to bride-to-be after she shares best friend can't go on hens weekend

An Irish bride-to-be has turned to social media in a bid to get her best friend to Albufeira, Portugal on St Patrick’s Day for her hens party.

Rachel shared on Twitter that her best friend Kayla had surprised her and their 19 friends after arriving home in Ireland a month early.

Bride-to-be Rachel revealed she was heading to Albufeira for her hen party on St Patrick’s Day, and that her best friend Kayla, ‘means the world’ to her.

Kayla, the bride's best friend, had been living in New Zealand when the bridal group booked their flights.

Taking to Twitter, Rachel tagged Ryanair calling them the best social media team, saying: “Dear @Ryanair’s social media team (i.e. the best social media team in the world ).

“This is my best friend and bridesmaid Kayla. We’ve been friends for as long as I can remember and she means the world to me. @askryanair”

“Next week, on Paddy’s Day, 19 of us are heading to Albufeira for my hen weekend. There’s only one problem: Kayla’s not coming”

Rachel explained in the tweet that the bridal party had booked their flights while Kayla was still residing in New Zealand, but the flight had doubled in price from €262 to €575 and they had been waiting for the price to drop again.

She said: “When we booked our flights, they were only €262 each. At the time, Kayla was living in New Zealand. Well, didn’t she only go and surprise us by coming home last week MONTHS earlier than planned. Amazing right???!!”

“Well … the flights have now gone up to €575 and to put it bluntly, she’s skint. We’ve waited, refreshed and hoped for a miracle in the form of a much cheaper fare - which doesn’t look likely “

Rachel even joked that they would let Kayla sit in seat 11A on the plane, the window seat with no window.

We know you’re a bunch of legends and as my nanny always says “a dumb priest never got a parish”. We hope you can find it in your hearts to make our dreams come true and #GetKaylatoPortugal, WE BEG, We’ll even let her sit in 11A - the window seat with no window.”

It wasn’t long before Rachel’s sense of humour caught the eye of Dublin Airport, who gave the bride-to-be a lovely surprise.

Dublin Airport responded to Rachel saying: We appreciate your sense of humour @RachaelOShea9. And even though you think other social media teams are better, we still feel your efforts deserve something. So, we're teaming up with our friends in @MarqetteDublin to provide you with a fizzy start to your weekend...

“Stop by Marqette in T1 from 7am on the 17th and the team will look after you, Kayla and the others. Enjoy! @RachaelOShea9”

Delighted with the gesture, Rachel replied: “Omg @DublinAirport, you have been promoted to favourite. This is the loveliest gesture and such a touch of class after a morning of abuse from online trolls. Thank you SO MUCH.”

Several social media followers reacted to the gesture, with one saying: I want pictures of this trip. so invested and happy for strangers!”

A second wrote: “Fair play Dublin Airport. Class gesture in fairness.”

While a third said: “Absolutely epic. Rachael deserves nothing but the best for her hen”
