Dublin Airport has said individual airlines are responsible for the luggage crisis that has affected passengers over the summer months.
People report having had missing bags since the end of last month and have turned to social media to ask the airport for answers. Dublin Airport apologised for the delays in a recent statement but placed responsibility on individual airlines.
“We don't have any role in baggage handling, nor access to any details regarding delayed/lost luggage. We really hope you have your items back soon,” the airport told one disgruntled passenger on social media.

They also confirmed in a statement released last month that Ryanair and Aer Lingus carry out their own baggage handling in the airport, while ground handling companies are in charge of managing luggage for international airlines that travel to and from the airport.
The airport has been struggling in the aftermath of the pandemic as staffing numbers remain low despite the increased demand for flights. Dublin Airport Authority spokesperson Graeme McQueen confirmed that 50 additional staff would be hired to deal with waiting periods.
People are documenting their experiences on Twitter, with one user claiming that they had to deal with a “sea” of luggage upon navigating their way out of the airport. Another reported that their five bags were still missing a week on from their travels.
The long queues that caused chaos in June have reportedly eased, with luggage now being the main problem facing passengers arriving at the airport. The airport confirmed in a statement that 99 per cent of passengers in the last week of July went through security in under half an hour.
The airport urged customers facing issues with their baggage to contact the airline they travelled with to resolve any issues over missing luggage.
“Daa does not employ any baggage handling staff, and it has no information in relation to missing aircraft baggage. daa does not have any role in relation to baggage delivery and passengers are advised to contact their airline or its local ground handling agent in relation to queries regarding lost bags,” they confirmed.
