Dublin Airport labelled 'shambles' by passengers who have 'never seen it this busy'

Dublin Airport has been labelled a "shambles" by departing passengers this morning after lengthy queues caused chaos.

And Airport management have warned passengers to arrive early, saying the "current period is the busiest the Airport has seen since before Covid".

The lead up to the St Patrick's Day long weekend saw "nightmare" queues - and the situation doesn't seem to have improved.

Many took to Twitter this morning to complain about waiting times.

One wrote: "Absolute shambles at Dublin Airport this morning - get your act together folks."

Another said: "3hrs getting through security and US preclearance at Dublin Airport. Never seen the airport this busy!"

A third tweeted: "Dublin Airport please sort out your security Q - 45mins waiting and still not through in T2. Same story every time!"

Another passenger complained about fast track, saying they were queuing for 20 minutes and "still waiting to get through security".

A spokesman for daa told Dublin Live they advise passengers to prepare for security in advance "in order to ensure the smoothest journey possible".

He said: "This current period is the busiest the airport has seen since before Covid. Almost 800,000 passengers are set to travel through Dublin Airport during the 12-day St Patrick’s Day period this year from March 12 to March 24.

"In order to ensure the smoothest journey possible, Dublin Airport continues to advise passengers to prepare for security in advance and make their way directly to the security screening area once checked in.

"Travellers are reminded that EU security regulations state that liquids over 100mls cannot be brought through the security screening area.

"Liquids under 100mls are permitted and should be placed in a transparent, re-sealable bag measuring not more than 20cm x 20cm. Exemptions are in place for medicines and for baby food."

The Airport also said passengers should check their terminal in advance.

"Passengers are also advised to check which terminal their flight is departing from prior to arriving in the airport, which you will be able to find here.

"With passenger numbers increasing, Dublin Airport continues to advise passengers travelling on short-haul flights to allow a minimum of two hours before the boarding of their flight and three hours for long-haul flights.

"Those using a long-term car park should allow at least an extra 30 minutes."
