Gavan O’Herlihy has died at the age of 70.
The Happy Days actor - who played Chuck Cunningham in the series - passed away on September 15 in Bath, England.
His brother, Cormac, confirmed the star's death to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Irish star's cause of death has not been revealed but his brother told the outlet that it was not related to COVID-19.
Gavan appeared in seven episodes of Happy Days as character Chuck - a basketball star at Jefferson High who goes off to college.
He had in an interview that he left the show as he "didn't want to do it" but realised it was his "big break."
“I pulled out of it, I didn’t want to do it,” he said.
“They had me at college, I was going to grunt and bounce a basketball once every couple of weeks for probably three or four years. And at 20 years old, that’s not the gig you want to be doing. But that was my big break; that got me established around town as a kid who got hot in a hurry.”
When Gavan left the show he was later replaced by Randolph Roberts.
The actor had an impressive CV, in 1983 he played Brad in Superman III, which starred Christopher Reeve as the superhero, in 1983.
He also starred as Airk Thaughbaer in Willow and in the early 90s appeared in Twin Peaks.
After he relocated to the UK in the 1990s, his other TV credits included Coded Hostile, Sharpe, Jonathan Creek, and Midsomer Murders.
Fans have been paying tribute to the actor on Twitter.
One typed: "Saw that Gavan O'Herlihy has passed away, so I need to get another Willow viewing on sometime soon. Godspeed, Airk.."
A second added: "#RIP Gavan O'Herlihy; excellent movie bad guy played Chuck Cunningham, the 'Happy Days' brother who vanished: "I was going to grunt & bounce a basketball once every couple of weeks for probably 3 or 4 years. At 20 years old, that's not the gig you want."
Another joined in: "Sad to hear that the great Gavan O’Herlihy has passed away at age 70 – I enjoyed his work in Superman 3, Twin Peaks and especially as Airk Thaughbaer in Willow. RIP."
