Duane Brown will not be activated this week, says Robert Saleh

Jets offensive tackle Duane Brown may be eligible to come off injured reserve this week, but the team is choosing to hold off on that for at least another week, according to head coach Robert Saleh.

“He looks good, everything looks good, we’re just going to wait another week- we’re pushing it back another week,” Saleh told reporters Wednesday. “Not saying that he’ll be activated next week, but we have time on that one.”

The Jets initially placed Brown on injured reserve back on September 23, before the team’s Week 3 game against the New England Patriots. The team could have chosen to open his 21-day practice window this week, but they will hold off on doing so, at least until next week and perhaps even longer than that.

After the Jets moved Brown to injured reserve, Mekhi Becton took over as the starting left tackle, Alijah Vera-Tucker became the right tackle and rookie Joe Tippmann slotted in at right guard. Vera-Tucker is now out for the season with an Achilles tear while Tippmann is working his way back from a quad injury and did not practice Wednesday.

But overall, the line was playing much better in recent weeks and we recently touched on why the Jets shouldn’t make any changes even when Brown does come back. For now, the Jets don’t even have to worry about that because Brown will not be on the active roster for at least another week.
