Dua Lipa has recently released a new song titled “Illusion” along with a music video shot at the Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc in Barcelona, Spain. The music video features Lipa crashing a workout session, dressed in a black leotard and tights, and surrounded by backup dancers who eventually join her in the pool for a choreographed performance.
The song, part of Lipa’s upcoming album Radical Optimism, explores the theme of recognizing red flags in a relationship before committing. With lyrics like “I be like, ooh, it’s amusin’ / You think I’m gonna fall for an illusion,” Lipa conveys a message of not being deceived by false appearances.
“Illusion” marks the first collaboration between Lipa and songwriters Caroline Ailin, Danny Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Kevin Parker (Tame Impala), setting the tone for her new musical direction. Lipa describes the song as a playful take on staying in a relationship despite knowing the truth, turning the tables on the other person.
Radical Optimism, scheduled for release on May 3, will showcase a departure from Lipa’s previous neo-disco sound towards a more contemporary pop style.
