Dua Lipa in Cardiff review: Singer blows the roof off in electric Cardiff gig

Rumours of the Motorpoint Arena relocating to a different site seem like a good idea after Dua Lipa well and truly blew the roof off the arena last night. The atmosphere in the Motorpoint Arena was electric as pop singer Dua Lipa returned to Cardiff for the first time in four years.

Superstar chart-topping star Dua Lipa hit the capital with her future Nostalgia tour, the ninth stop on her tour. In my first show post-Covid, the levitating singer did not disappoint, she brought the works to Wales' capital with giant lobsters, confetti, dancers on skates, and some of the best atmosphere I'd witnessed in a crowd for a long time.

The hugely anticipated show was postponed for two years due to Covid but it was certainly worth the two-year wait. Singer Dua said: "Thank you for holding on to your tickets for two years, we’re finally here."

The venue was buzzing as people crammed in to the venue, cheers echoed through the arena for the 26-year-old as she opened the show in a pink unitard with Physical. The hit was one of her singles from her 2020 album, with the song really getting the crowd warmed up and ready for her second song New Rules, another of her catchy tunes, one of her first big hits from her debut self-titled album.

The crowd sang along to support act Griff as she kicked off the show and sang along to her incredibly popular song One Night, the talent this woman displayed was unrivalled. She sang, she played guitar, she played piano and she also brought an incredibly warm energy to the stage to start the show.

After the crowd had warmed up and sang along to their heart's content, everyone from the youngsters in the crowd to the parents they'd dragged along with them was bopping along to her hugely catchy numbers before she jumped into tracks from her latest album Future Nostalgia, many of them lockdown anthems Boys Will Be Boys and Good in Bed.

The singer- who impressed the Welsh crowd with her incredible choreography, amazing costumes and electric energy gave a show-stopping performance for her first time back in Cardiff since the pandemic struck. London born Dua Lipa, who now has more than 82 million Instagram followers, changed outfits several times during the show with her silver leotard combined with sparkly boots and a final black embellished jumpsuit two of my personal favourites. Your eyes were permanently fixed on the singer as she strutted down the stage like a catwalk in her incredible wardrobe which looked like she had just walked off a fashion runway.

The arena was also transformed, turning into what felt like a giant club with Dua throwing it back to 2018 with her track One Kiss which featured Calvin Harris and a pretty epic laser show to accompany. I think what was most refreshing to see in my first post-Covid show was her incredible energy on stage, she really seemed like she was loving every minute of her time on stage and that really reflected how well the crowd also enjoyed the evening.

As she performed Cold Heart, her collaboration with Elton John, the whole arena sang along with her. A sea of lights from phones lit up the venue as she sat on the stage wrapped in an LGBT flag and belted out the tune, she sounded incredible.

Wearing another amazing catsuit Dua re-joined the crowd for an encore where she performed Future Nostalgia then ended the show with Don't Start Now. This highly anticipated show was due to be taking place in September last year, but Covid and social distancing rules postponed it until last night. Covid restrictions seemed a lifetime away looking around at the thousands of people crammed into the arena. Her incredible energy, incredible outfits and buzzing dancers, band and singers continued late into the night and just kept on giving, a great first show back since the pandemic.
