The DSPCA has called for more supports as its waiting list surges with people looking to surrender pets.
The animal charity explained that factors such as the cost of living crisis were tying in to people's difficulties in accommodating animals. They said other animal charities are experiencing similar challenges nationwide and needed urgent assistance.
The DSPCA added that although the situation is not yet at crisis point, it could easily worsen. The charity's spokesperson Gillian Bird previously told Dublin Live the centre was at capacity, which was putting a strain on staff.

Gillian told RTE's Morning Ireland: "People are scared to adopt because of money. We always have a certain amount of people who say their landlord won't let them keep an animal anymore or who need to move home, which has increased recently."
She explained the DSPCA always try their utmost to accommodate animals in need. However, the charity needs more funding in order to safely provide care for animals.
The surrender list is not exclusive to dogs, as animals such as cats, rabbits and even ferret also feature on the waiting list. The DSPCA are also seeking to recruit more people as fosterers in order to ease the backlog.
The charity is promoting its 'Adopt Don't Shop' campaign in order to encourage people to take on a pet. The DSPCA also recently re-introduced subsidised microchipping clinics at its centre for the first time since the pandemic, as the procedure makes it easier to reunite missing pets with their families.
