Drunk Wallsend yob spat on Metro worker and exposed himself in argument over vape

A drunk yob spat on Metro worker before dropping his trousers and exposing himself in front of shocked passengers.

David Sutton started being aggressive towards the Nexus employee after he took exception to being asked to stop vaping onboard a train. The 28-year-old's behaviour continued to escalate as he threw the smoking device towards the victim before he turned and spat on him, a court was told.

The intoxicated lout then flashed his genitals at the worker and nearby passengers after the train pulled into Meadow Well Metro Station, in North Tyneside. The police were called and Sutton was arrested but went on to give a no-comment interview.

The drunk pest, now of no fixed abode but formerly of Belper Close, in Wallsend, has now been jailed for 13 weeks after he pleaded guilty to exposure and assault. He also admitted assaulting a police officer and being repeatedly drunk and disorderly during a month-long, boozed-up crime spree in August and September this year.

Glenda Beck, prosecuting at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court, said the first offence for being drunk and disorderly happened on August 18 when Sutton was lying on a disabled ramp outside a Co-op store in North Shields. He was arrested after ignoring officers' warnings about his bad language.

Outlining the exposure incident on the Metro on August 25, Mrs Beck said: "The witness was a Metro worker and he was made aware of this defendant being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was vaping, so the witness asked him to stop. The defendant said "f*** off, I will do what the f*** I want"."

The court heard that Sutton then got off the Metro, raised his fists towards the victim and spat on him. Mrs Beck continued: "Having assaulted the Metro worker, the defendant then pulled his trousers down and exposed his penis and pressed himself against the doors of the train."

Magistrates were told that, just four weeks later, Sutton was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in North Shields after he shouted and swore during the national two-minute silence for the Queen's funeral. He was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, in Cramlington, where he spat towards a female officer, called her a "f****** s**g" and threatened to rape her daughter.

In a statement, the police officer said: "I feel disgusted at the fact Sutton was spitting towards me and in a hospital setting, where there's sick people. This left me extremely concerned about the risk of contagious diseases, putting myself and my family at risk."

Finally, on September 25, Sutton was again arrested for being drunk and disorderly after he was intoxicated and blocking access to a cash point outside the Co-op store, in Tynemouth. He was detained after ignoring warnings about the abuse he was shouting, the court was told.

Stuart Athey, defending, said Sutton had ADHD, had endured a difficult upbringing and suffered periods of homelessness from a young age. Mr Athey added: "He needs help and he needs support - he's vulnerable. All these offences are related to alcohol, he is alcohol-dependant."

As well as being jailed for 13 weeks, Sutton was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for five years and must pay £100 compensation each to the police officer and Metro worker.
