'Drunk' Edinburgh beachgoers leave furniture and rubbish strewn across beach

As Edinburgh has enjoyed a taste of summer, many flocked to Portobello beach to soak up the sun.

However, on Friday morning, locals spotted patio furniture and rubbish strewn across the beach following a party.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a group of people leaving drunk on Thursday evening and an 'array of litter' behind them that naturally attracted seagulls.

Sadly it isn't uncommon to see litter left on the beach over summer as the sun attracts hundreds to Portobello. Among the litter and beer bottles, a coffee table, deck chairs, and a garden trolley, that was reportedly lent to them, were left as they made their way home.

The council removed the belongings and rubbish on Friday morning.

The group was seen leaving Porty beach 'intoxicated' with one local saying that she saw them struggling to get a taxi home.

One local resident told Edinburgh Live: "Four people were spotted leaving the beach, leaving behind all their belongings which included a trolley, chairs, a table, and an array of litter which had attracted a load of seagulls.

"It was clear two of them were severely intoxicated, they had been in the water clothed and they were soaking wet and covered in sand. When told they had to clear this up they said they would but they headed towards Bath Street and waited for a taxi.

"They were so drunk the taxi refused to take them. A council van happened to be out at the time and cleared away everything."
