Drunk Celtic fan who leapt into dugout for Neil Lennon selfie walks free from court

A Celtic fan who tried to take a selfie with manager Neil Lennon during a match walked free from court.

Connor Dempsey leaped over the barricades and attempted to approach the Irishman on October 3, 2019.

The drunk 24-year-old was stopped by officers and arrested.

He pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to conducting himself in a disorderly manner and committing a breach of the peace.

Sheriff Allan Findlay ordered Dempsey, of the city’s Govan area, to be of good behaviour for six months last October.

His lawyer Gerry Devanney confirmed on Tuesday that Dempsey had been of good behaviour.

Sheriff Findlay admonished him of the charge and he was free to leave the dock.

An earlier hearing was told Celtic were taking on Romanian outfit CFR Cluj in the UEFA Europa League tie.

Prosecutor Christopher McKnight said: “He made his way down the concourse steps.

“He entered into the Celtic dugout area and was alongside players and management.

“He attempted to obtain a photograph with Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

“Police approached him while he was heavily under the influence and he was taken into custody.”

Celtic went on to win the tie 2-0 with Odsonne Edouard and Mohamed Elyounoussi netting for The Bhoys.
