‘Drunk’ British woman arrested after punching crew member on flight to Turkey

A British woman has been arrested and appeared in a Greek court after she became drunk on a flight to Turkey and punched a cabin crew member, according to reports.

The woman, aged 61, shouted and assaulted a crew member on board the flight from Glasgow to Antalya, which was forced to make an emergency landing in Thessaloniki due to her aggressive behaviour around 10.30pm on Sunday night, Greek newspaper Protothema reported.

Two hours after the plane departed the woman allegedly became aggressive and hit her face on a seat. After she could not be calmed down, the aircraft operator requested to make an emergency landing due to the safety of other passengers.

The woman was arrested at Macedonia International Airport in Thessaloniki and taken to the prosecutor’s office to face a string of charges over the disruption, the newspaper said.

The passenger reportedly refused to apologise and said she would report everything she has to say in court. She is due to appear at the Criminal Court of Thessaloniki over the incident.

It comes just months after two Russian men were arrested and charged after becoming drunk and unruly on an EasyJet flight from Manchester to Turkey.

The two men were also arrested in Thessaloniki after the flight was diverted to Greece on its way to Dalaman.

Last month a couple was led away by police in Ibiza after being caught allegedly having sex in toilet on board an EasyJet flight from Luton airport.
