Drummoyne MP John Sidoti rejects NSW Premier's call to resign after ICAC findings

Former NSW Liberal minister John Sidoti says he had a two-word answer for the Premier when he phoned asking for his resignation, after vowing to clear his name of corruption findings.

Speaking on Nine radio this morning, the Drummoyne MP would not reveal exactly what he said to Premier Dominic Perrottet, who has publicly stated Mr Sidoti should resign.

"It was two words and I can't mention them on camera," he said.

"It was rude, I don't remember exactly but it was words that aren't usually in my vocabulary."

The former sports minister reaffirmed his intention to fight a corruption finding and clear his name.

It comes after the state's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) found he improperly used his position to influence the redevelopment of the Five Dock town centre.

The 200-plus page ICAC report said Mr Sidoti wanted planning controls relaxed so that three properties his family owned could benefit from development potential.

But the embattled MP has rejected the findings.

"It's not as if I had in my mind some devious plan like set out here, that I just liberally didn't disclose what I had because I was behind the scenes lobbying to get something. It's nothing like that."

The ICAC has sought the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions on whether any criminal charges should be laid.

Mr Sidoti said he would file an application to the NSW Supreme Court.

"I know in my heart what I've done and what I haven't done and the reality is, I'm innocent," he said.

"I'm going to fight this, it's on principle. It's three years of misery I've had to put up with.

"It's just a ridiculous system that's been set up and no one's got the spine to reform it and that's the sad part here.

"There have been many before me, many innocent people that have gone through what I've gone through, their reputations tarnished, their lives trashed, they come out the other end and then you get a one-line headline saying 'found innocent'.

"Big deal. By that time, years have gone past and your life's over."

NSW Treasurer Matt Kean this morning admonished Mr Sidoti and said he should "act decently and quit the parliament".

"I'm offended by corruption. I'm offended by what I've read about Mr Sidoti's behaviour," Mr Kean said.

"I think it reflects poorly, or it does a disservice to all of us who work hard for our communities and work hard for the people of NSW.

"Mr Sidoti should step down immediately and if he doesn't, then he needs to be suspended and booted from the parliament."

In a statement released yesterday, Mr Perrottet said he had called Mr Sidoti and asked for his resignation.

"I have contacted Mr Sidoti to inform him that I believe he should resign from the parliament," it reads.

"Should Mr Sidoti not resign, the NSW government will move a motion to have him suspended.

"There is no place for corruption in the NSW parliament."

The NSW government said it had sought legal advice in relation to the matter.
