Drugs sent to wrong address led gardaí straight to 'dopey' crime gang

Gardaí made this €300,000 drugs seizure – after the dopey crime gang delivered a consignment of cannabis to the wrong address, it has emerged.

The Mirror can reveal that a special nine day Garda operation was put in place after the gang behind the haul meant to have some cannabis sent to an associate’s property, but it was delivered to an innocent address instead.

Gardai in Crumlin, south Dublin became aware of the wrong delivery – and set up a special intelligence operation against the suspected gang members.

Sources have also told us that gardai believe the gang was using a legitimate shop as a front for their drugs operation.

It’s understood officers searched a number of properties in the area over several days – and recovered a significant amount of cannabis as well as cash, firearms and even prize bonds.

Five searches were carried out and gardai revealed they seized €300,000 cannabis herb, €12,000 cash, €8,000 prize bonds, a Rolex watch and seven suspected firearms.

There were no arrests, but gardai believe they have dealt a major blow to a drugs gang in the Crumlin area.

“There was a lot of good police work that went into this operation,” a source said.

We have also established that the firearms have all been deactivated, which means they cannot be fired.

But they will all now be analysed by experts from the Garda technical Bureau, and the drugs will be tested by experts from Forensics Science Ireland.

Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
