Drug dealer's mum led police to stash hidden in his bedroom

A drug dealer's mum led police to a stash hidden in his bedroom.

David Shelley, 26, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday (May 19). Prosecuting, Henry Riding told the court that officers attended Shelley's address on Chiltern Drive in Kirkby on May 25, 2022 in order to execute an unrelated warrant.

Shelley's mum showed officers to her son's room. In there, they found mobile phones, sim cards, snap bags and 96g of cannabis resin with an estimated street value of around £960. £230 in cash was also recovered.

In a police interview, Shelley initially denied he intended to supply the drugs. Later, when messages on his phone showed otherwise, he answered 'no comment'.

Shelley had previously served a sentence for possession with intent to supply. He pleaded guilty to this offence - possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply - at magistrates' court.

In brief mitigation, Gerald Baxter said his client's life had changed significantly since the offence.

Sentencing, Mr Recorder Eric Lamb told Shelley: "Yours was a significant role in the supply of this drug". However, the judge noted that the dealer had since "overcome a previous addiction to cannabis" and had turned his life around, so he was in a "wholly different position today", compared with May 2022.

As such, Recorder Lamb handed Shelley a six month sentence, suspended for a year, leaving him to walk free from court. When exiting Liverpool Crown Court's front entrance, Shelley gestured with his middle finger to the ECHO.
