Former Linfield defender Ethan Boyle was the victim of alleged racist abuse while playing for Finn Harps at Drogheda United on Friday night.
It is understood Boyle was targeted by an individual who was subsequently removed from the ground and banned from future games.
Drogheda, who won the Premier Division fixture 3-1, moved quickly to condemn the incident while Finn Harps said that “racism has no place in our game”.

A statement issued by Drogheda on Saturday night read: “Drogheda United condemn the racist abuse suffered by Ethan Boyle last night.
“The individual in question was identified and removed from the ground at half time, and will be banned from attending future Drogheda United matches.
“Racism has no place in society or football.”
The Louth club’s statement followed a similar condemnation by Finn Harps, who welcomed Boyle back for a second spell 16 months ago.
The Donegal club said: “Finn Harps condemn the racist abuse that Ethan Boyle was subjected to at the game last night.
“We would like to thank Drogheda United and their supporters for reacting quickly and dealing with the person involved. Racism has no place in our game.”
Boyle, who spent a brief spell with Linfield in 2020, has received support on social media, with fellow players dismayed that he was allegedly subject to such abuse.
Republic of Ireland women’s international Rianna Jarrett said: “Crazy to think that our country has come so far in recent years but this is still happening in this day and age!
“Nobody should have to experience this.”
Boyle joined Linfield on an 18-month deal after leaving Shamrock Rovers in January 2020 but his stay with the Irish League club was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 25-year-old right back, who went on to make nine appearances for the Blues, left the Big Two giants by mutual consent in January 2021.
