Drivers urged to 'pay attention' after numerous near misses through M9 roadworks

Drivers who frequently use the M9 through Falkirk are urging other motorists to start paying attention when travelling along an area of major roadworks - before someone is seriously injured.

It's after a number of near misses at Junction 8 Kinnaird Interchange, where a 50mph speed restriction is in place.

A project is currently underway to refurbish Hill Bridge over the M9, which carries the eastbound M876.

The outside lane is closed, with the inside lane and hard shoulder being a makeshift carriageway, meaning temporary road markings are in place.

However, over the past week, a number of motorists have contacted Falkirk Live with their concern people are not paying attention, drifting into lanes and also most hitting vehicles behind them.

As it stands, there are currently no white markings, and instead cats eyes are being used to separate traffic.

Dashcam footage sent to us on Friday shows a white coloured car drifting into the lane of a HGV - the driver of which had to slam on his brakes to avoid colliding with the car in front.

A spokesperson for Bear Scotland, the operator carrying out the works, said: "Our teams are currently carrying out essential maintenance on a motorway bridge which carries the M876 over the M9 near Stenhousemuir.

"We are currently using the hard shoulder as a live lane to keep two lanes of traffic running to help limit disruption to road users.

"We would advise motorists to adhere to the temporary 50mph speed limit that is in place and take extra care when passing through the works.

"We will continue to monitor the traffic management arrangements and look at the possibility of erecting additional signage in advance of the works to warn motorists."
