Nottinghamshire Police has dispersed several "dangerous car meets" over the weekend that were taking place along a stretch of the M1. The force's special constables account tweeted its roads policing unit had been on the scene at Junction 27 dealing with various driving offences.
The force said it had been another "busy weekend" for its roads policing unit and that the work included dealing with numerous speeding drivers, drivers with no licence and drivers with illegal number plates. In regards to the dangerous car meets at Junction 27, the junction for Kirkby-in-Ashfield, the force added: "Please go down the road to Donington Park if you want to race."
Special constables have the same power as paid police officers, but volunteer on a part-time basis. Other work done by the roads policing unit over the weekend included finding a car that had been stolen from Wakefield in Worksop.

The reports of dangerous driving on the M1 come after residents along a stretch of the A52 in Nottinghamshire voiced their concerns about car meets in their area. Nottinghamshire Police said it had increased patrols in the area between Edwalton and West Bridgford following reports of up to 40 cars racing up and down the road.
